project objectives
The project aims to look into the way water (rivers, channels, lakes, seas) has been determining the development of regions (in the past and present).
In all five countries, WATER is a symbol of purification and rebirth, BARRIER and MEANS between PEACE and WAR, between FREEDOM and OPPRESSION, between ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE and IGNORANCE. The project seeks to treat WATER both in a scientific, historical, social and political approach - in an attempt to raise awareness among young people involved, their peers, families, schools and communities.
All participating student under the guidance of their teachers will do research and analysis from historical, geographical, environmental and scientific (biological, chemical) points of view. Furthermore, the project will look into the social science aspects, such as economical, touristic and socio-demographic situation in each chosen area.
The major objectives of this project are go through the acquisition of innovative approaches addressing the key challenges of today's world (employment, entrepreneurship, language, civic, intercultural skills, intercultural dialogue, democratic values and fundamental rights, social inclusion, non-discrimination and active citizenship, critical thinking, digital skills and literacy to the media). This project falls in the Europe 2020 strategy, as its goals concern the climate/energy (climate and energy sustainability changes), education and social inclusion (combating poverty and social exclusion, reducing early school leavers, including migrants and refugees ).
Water has no border and the different geographical location of each partner school and the difference in the "type" of water (be it the ocean, a lake, a river, a spring...) that will be analysed will positively enhance the pedagogical scope of this project, as it will substantially try to provide a wider view of this topic by touching creatively the various aspects and multiple problems concerning the importance of water and also a pathway to search for "freedom".
Through the activities that will be carried out during the project, we wish to fulfill a background for the educational activity on the basis of personal development of pupils, their engagement and their entrepreneurship, to facilitate an active dialogue between pupils and teachers, to initiate more common activities and also to apply some examples of good practices from their European colleagues. Promoting transnational dialogue and cooperation will foster and strengthen the European dimension in education and culture. Learning will become interactive and the teachers will surely be coachers for lifelong learning.
The study of "water" in its environmental, scientific, historical, artistic, cultural aspects... can enable students to acquire the basic skills necessary for their social and academic success in a more attractive way and thus reduce the risk of school dropout. Widening their view to other countries and other problematics in what concerns water is a way to include them in a global citizenship in Europe.
